Default Boosting Torque and HP on work truck

I am trying to figure out what to do with a 2004 GMC C5500 Duramax/Allison with 20k on the odometer. I want to use it as a tool truck and hauler, but weight is my concern, so I want to boost the Duramax to its limit, I am looking for ideas. I am looking to spend about 2k on the project.

    Thanks,
    Tim

One viable option. Can also be stacked on top of programmer 'tow tunes' and shut off with the flick of a switch when not needed.

In my observations, propane fumigation over diesel becomes more effective as you increase load, which in your case is simply WEIGHT.

Call me sometime if you want to discuss the pros/cons. 612.578.6355 (I do not sell MSD products, only use them.)

The torque limits of the Allison will be your power limiter.... If you wish to leave the Allison stock, 40-60 hp increase would be a conservative goal that'll help maintain longterm transmission durability. Lots of products currently on the market will get you that power increase and more. I like the Edge Juice/Attitude, the Van-Aaken, the Predator and I'm learning more about custom ECM tuning (which looks like an excellent choice as well).

Otherwise, installing a performance exhaust system and EGT/Boost gauges could be a good first step....

MP, does the Allison 2200 hold additional torque better than the 1000, or are they the same?

The 2002 data I have indicates that the 4-speed 2000 series Allison AT's have an input tq rating of 545 lb-ft, which was the same as the 1000 series in that model year.

Thank you both, that's lots of good food for thought. I will be in touch soon.
