I would call to see if it works off of the Alt. This is how the Tach work on the diesels that come OEM on the newer 6.5

Water/Alky Injection. Amsoil Dual Bypass. Baldwin filter. aFe Air filter, Air box & Turbo Mods. Power Service Product. Large Duels 235/85-16. Tool Box\'s & truck, 8200 lbs.
I believe the tach on the newer 6.5's is driven from the ECM via the crank position sensor input????????

It's actually driven off the alternator too, just internal to the alternator.Originally Posted by robyn
The tach described above will likely work well with the 6.2, it's got a external sensor that straps on the outside of the alternator via the biggest hose clamp you can buy. I haven't tested it's accuracy, but they're supposed to be "close enough."
