Probably best to use a block off plate, but, if isn't going to leak anything into the engine now, so you'll likely be ok.
It will probably make some noise eventually though.
A blockoff plate off any SBC gasser (ex 350) will bolt right up to the 6.2, so a block-off plate is available for cheap, get a annodized red or something!
Oh, and remove the pushrod too, don't leave it flopping 'round in there...
