The military does use a tremendous amount of fuel. However, it is a very small percentage when compared fuel used by the homefront for commercial and consumer purposes. Also, it impacts local fuel pricing very little, if at all. Fuel for military use is procured locally, in this case, Kuwait and SA, among others. We don't currently ship or divert US oil/fuel allotments into the current theater. Tax money pays for it, and we pay the tax, but the reality is, the military is paying pennies on the dollar for fuel compared to what we pay at home. Actually, it is cheaper on fuel when the military is operating in the oil rich countries. They are currently paying less than $.50 a gallon.

There's only one reason fuel prices are what they are now. Because they can.
