    Default 6.2 with 6.5 turbo

    Here is a few question I have to ask: I was at a scrap yard yesterday and found 3 6.5 turbo diesel pickups and they will sell part off them for cheap.
    TO of the engine are shot one has a rod sticking throught the pan and the other is sized up the third is in no sure what wrong with it! any how i CHECK THE turbos out on is all sloped out the second fell good and tight and the third look almost new! The third one trans pan is missing along with the valve body, I taking to battery out on friday and I doing to try and start it! The third one has a 4911 pump on it.

    Question 1) I don't want to screw with the heads and swap out my 6.2 heads for the 6.5 ,could I still use the passenger side 6.5 exhaust manfold with my 6.2 head or could I use a banks passerside exhaust manfold?

    Question 2) Number 1 has a intercooler on and can it also be used in this swap to my 1986 k-5

    Any good input would be help full

    Mr. Brown,

    You can use the passanger side 6.5 exhaust manifold on the 6.2 engine. You'll have to use a short injector on #4 cylinder and bend the injector line to clear the manifold and fit the spot.

    Grab the driver side manifold too. It should make getting the crossover pipe easier to fit. You know the intake manifold should be on your list.

    I have a J-code intake with a custom intake / hat for the 6.2 I was planning on keeping it and doing a little more work on it to fit!

    No reason not to use what you already have. I think it will allow more creativity.

    Will the short injector be on the 6.5 or will I have to source from a van 6.2?

    I've heard most folks use a 6.5 injector, but if a van one is the same height, a 6.2 version would keep the pressures more even. Your choice.

    I took an exhaust manifold gasket to a local machine shop. They used it as a template and made me a 3/8" stainless spacer/header flange. It provides plenty of clearance, and way cheaper than replacing all the injectors.
