Default Another one bites the dust

Yep, my daily driver 3/4T at least threw a rod if not the whole bottom end Wednesday morning. If it was the bottom end I suspect that the harmonic dampener was going bad for a while. I have been having intermittent vibrations, but as worn as the drivetrain is it was hard to tell where they came from. I had just installed new injectors on the motor... moral of the story, new parts make old engines fall apart.

I guess I'll have to see whats up with the dually and go ahead and turbo it. I really needed a kick in the rear to get going on that one anyway, just not this kind! I'm kinda bummed.

hope you all have better luck than me.

According to your signature, the 6.2 was a new transplant, that's tough.

Vibrations can be scary, hopefully not far from home.

Usually these things just don't throw a rod, as the rods are one of the stouter pieces internally, but they do fail as other things do.

Well, nothing like a kick in the butt to get another project started though.

I'm in that mode as well. I need to get a spare something running as well. My '91 is the only reliable driver currently. My '95 was my spare until it broke the crank. My '86 needs some work that my pocket book cannot handle, so it has to sit, the rear end needs rebuilding.

Somewhere I read that life shouldn't mearly be a struggle to survive.

When you get it apart, let's get some digital photography going?

    late!

Will do on the pics..when I get to it!! My wife's car blew the tranny about a week before the truck did its thing. My used car lot just turned into a junkyard... one runner out of seven:-O the 'Burb is apart for a new front tranny seal and besides it needs other stuff too. I guess its time to get to it.

My rule for driving used vehicles.
"Have several parked in the yard as you may need them"
I always make it a point that when fixing something I give it 110% as this way the problem usually stays fixed.

There are only two of us here but we have 3 daily drivers as you never know when one or the other of the ponies will turn up lame.

    Been there done that

Good luck at getting some rolling stock back on line

Default Never thought I'd say this!!

YES!! the K30 has a cracked piston! about 2/3 across may have started in the wrist pin area...we'll see. This one isn't getting 110% because it is slated for a cummins conversion. I just re-ringed it about 30K ago so I'll stick in a better piston with the same rings and hope fer the best.
I'm really tired of throwing good money at something I know will eventually break unless I spend waaaay more than my truck is worth on one of these things (e.g. Ronniejoe's set-up). For less money I can do a cummins. Not everyone can, I understand, but I can, and will.
I'll get some pics of the damage up after I get them.

    Have a good one!
