    Default 6.5 strange quit

    Hi

New here, but owned several 6.5 for 10 years.

Have a 98 ext cab C2500 4x4 6.5 TD quit quite strange, driving down the road, started to heat up a bit, then just quit. No knocking, No bang, just quit. Temperature continued to rise after truck quit.

Tried to start right away, nothing. Tried an hour later, started but, barely, ran really, really rough and lots of black smoke.

Any area should look for easy or quick fix or assume the worse, rebuild motor?

Is there a way to check for codes without scanner?

Hoping it might be timing issues

Truck has 405, 000k, but bought used , so do not know if it is original motor or not

    Any help appreicated

    Default Engine quit

    Hi there,
Pull the dipstick, what color is the oil, is it black or is there any signs of coolant mixed with it (brown or emulsified looking)?
Is the coolant level ok at the expansion tank or in the radiator, also is there any signs of oil in the coolant?

Was there any unusual sounds from the engine when it quit, any unusual sounds when starting up after it had cooled down.

Is the cooling system pressurizing (any bubbles in the expansion tank, you will need to fill the system right up to the top as this makes it easier to see bubbles in it).

Start from there and give us as much info as possible.

    Good luck

    Jim
