    Default coolent leak, water pump??

    Hi everyone,
    new guy here, great forum
    I own a 2001 2500HD duramax.
I have a coolent leak and can't identify the part. I believe it is the water pump. I can see it coming out of the weep hole, where the lower hose connects. I'm wondering is the water pump that large? or is it two separate parts? The water pump is connected to the fan, but the hoses connect to another part to the right of it? I hope i'm making sense
    THANKS for any help

    Welcome to the Forums!

The WP isn't connected to the fan. It's gear driven, not belt driven like other GM engines.

While you're in there poking around, check your turbo coolant return hose, right behind the top of the fan pulley. It's either the cause of the leak, or ready to be replaced anyway.

A chronic cooling system overpressure due to a bad head gasket can stress the WP seal over time, and increase the possibility of premature leaks.

I recommend replacing the coolant surge tank pressure cap whenever a WP is replaced.

Thanks for the help and advice.
I'm going to replace it this weekend.
BTW, if anyone needs to know, I found the flywheel holder J 44643 from Kent Moore SPX for $100.62.
