    Default ATS turbo ?

    UPS lost my ATS turbo manafold so I was thinking of changing to a GM or Banks But I dont want to if I cant keep my ATS air filter set up. This is going in my 68 burb and I want to use a stock air cleaner like the old ATS kit lets you do has any one tried this before?

    You could certainly do what you're describing.

    What I'm gathering is that you've got the EARLY ATS setup that uses the factory air cleaner, it has an adapter that bolts to the intake manifold.

    Like these pictured components:



    You could acquire a Banks Manifold, and then the respective Banks Turbocharger (T3 flanged), verses the T4 Turbo the ATS (early) used. then plumb the intake and boost pressure to the turbo with the top hat.

    I don't think it's a bad idea at all, I like the factory cleaner, well, if modified with the proper snorkel (like Dr. Lee's), you couldn't stack cleaners though, due to space limitations from hitting the hood tho.

    I personally don't like the little Banks Air Box that gets used otherwise.

    Here is a pic of them next to each other the problem with the ATS set up is ist oposate the banks set up. filltered air comes in the back on the ATS anf the front on the banks and GM. Can the banks or gm turbo be rotated so that it matches the ATS turbo. I thought about a t4 to t3 adaptor and using the ATS turbo but if I go to a GM turbo I will have a waste gate.
    I had planed on using a cawl induction hood to help fraw in cooler air from out side. UPS out a stop to my plans now I need to come up with a plan B or find a ats manafold withc most poeple tend to scrap this style one and go with the newer banks style turbo.

    Yeah a T3 to T4 adapter would work good.

    What year model truck is this going into?

    That's IMPORTANT!

    The Banks setup you pictured is for the 88-92 Model N/A 6.2's in the "newer" body style, well newer of those that came equipped with the 6.2.

    It won't fit the 82-87 Body Style, subs, blazers, and 3+3 chassis.

    You need the smaller (yet way more efficient) manifold that Banks used in the early setups, which is way more common anyways.

    This will give you the room to do some adapting.

    Use the ATS top hat on the intake. Just making tubing that transfers the air. 3" alumium (available on ebay and elsewhere) already bent pieces to make the transition from the intake adapter to the intake side of the turbo. Then a 2.5, maybe 2" (not sure can't measure, don't have the ATS stuff anymore) from the pressure side of the turbo back up to the manifold. You'll have to use your imagination and adaptation skills to make it work. I have something invisioned in my head already.

    Its going into a 1968 so I have alot of room under the hood to work with. the 6.2 came out of a 84. I was thinking mount a gm or banks turbo turbo back word so it faced the same as the ATS did and then rotate the turbo housing to face teh engine but I dont know if this would efect the oiling of the turbo or not I think the ATS on a gm or Banks manafold may make it a little easier for the plumbing it should move it out a way from the engine giving me more room I think but with out one of the manafolds here I dont know.

    Why not build a custom manifold they did http://www.sdsefi.com/techheader.htm How do the ats turbos stack up as compared to a gm-8 ...The backwards turbo could be helpful on the drivers side of the twin turbo project I'm planning

    I thought abought that but Im not sure how to tye the cross over pipe in to it. if i was running twins I would just get a set of the hummer headers and flip them up side down and go from there. I thought abought mod afing one for this but that cross over thing gets in the way. I coldnt compair it to the gm or banks I never used on on a truck yet.
