    Default '99 1500 4x4 front diff hatched ?

Front diff on my '99 1500 4x4 hatched. Cracked the case open. GM doesn't offer parts according to my GM dealer. I got the impression, because this is a 1500 and not a 2500 or 3500, the front diff case and axel tube size is unique to this vehicle series. Anyway, I found a shop that can reman one, but is looking for a case. No used ones around my area. Is there a difference in case's between the 1500's and the 2500's ? 3.42 gears, 8 bolt hubs - not going to be cheap either : (

I am looking in my 97' parts book,

    K1 (06) Differential Carrier/ Front Axle (L65/6.5F)

Part # for the Carrier (case) is 15573202

The parts book shows the same part # for the K2 (C6P) and the K3

    The carrier from a K1 (03-16-53) and a K1 (06) (L31) uses part #15572988

    (06) 4dr Suburban
    (16) 2dr Utility (Tahoe/Yukon)
    (03) 2dr Std Pickup
    (53) 2dr Extd Cab Pickup
    (L31) 5.7L Gas Engine
    (L65) 6.5L Diesel Engine
    (C6P) 8600 Lbs GVW Rating

To bad you didn't have the 2dr, I have the front carrier with 3.42's and a rear end that I took out and replaced with 3.73's.

I have one in a 1995 1500 you can have for cheap. It has the thermal actuator, but may be compatible with later models. Check it out and if it fits, you can have it for way less than what a good unit would cost locally. Shipping won't be cheap, but I'll keep that in consideration. The gears are 3.73, but you can have just the case if it's a direct replacement for what you have. Shipping just the case won't be too bad.

    Default 8.50" & 9.25" GM IFS diff

There are three different GM ifs diff and I'm thinking the 8.50" (for 1500) and 9.25" (for 2500/3500)have the same mounting locations.

Suggest you check you RPO codes to determine exactly which IFS you have, doubtful a 1500 would come w/8600 lb 9.25" frt/ifs even in the diesel. An 8600 lb ifs diff has 14 bolts clamping the case halves together.

I've seen GM IFS diffs on pirate 4x4, and various search engines, and most bone yards what makes it tough is the gear selection 1999 8600 lb IFS diff came in only 4.10 or 3.73 period.

    Default DmaxMaverick ~

Thanks for the offer - The gear shop I brought the diff to couldn't locate a case, so they ordered the case from the mfg - who made them for GM, I was told. I should have indicated that my '99 sub is a diesel. I know the gear shop was pretty adament (sp?) on getting the correct right side half of the case, wanting to know the axel tube size or tube case number . . . That's why I brought the whole thing to them, to ensure the right part the first time. Lot's of 3.73 off gas jobs around. Again, thanks for your time.
