    i want to replace my 195 deg. thremo with a 354 series robertshaw 180 deg. kennedy diesel is the only place online that i can find them and they are on backorder. does anyone know where else i can look. why can't you just run without one, i mean besides heater issues and computer fuel rate/economy issues?

    Diesels run well @ about 185-200 degrees. No stat = no fast warm-up = more time running too cold = wear on engine parts & lousy combustion.
    You may have noticed the excessive diesel rattle on first (cold) ignition that dies within 30-60 seconds; that's the extreme end of the combustion part of the above equation.

    thanks ucdavis that makes sense i still would like to know where i can get that robertshaw 354 series 180 deg. thermostat.

    Autozone used to sell Robertshaw, but recently dropped them (even employees at Autozone stores wonders why - their replacement is not up to Robertshaw quality).

    Just the other day I found out A/Z quit handling them. I shopped other stores and found out Robertshaw quit making them. I found out from a parts guy, Stant bought that division of RS. Gates owns Stant. Finding this info still doesn't help finding the tstat. Stant only list 1 tstat for our application. It's not high flow.

    I had trouble finding then a while back. I asked More Power where he bought his. He replied the local auto parts store. I had him get out the yellow pages and give me the number. Problem is I cannot find it now. Maybee a Yahoo yellow pages search for Mizzoula MT (spelling?) auto parts stores. As I remember it they had a case on the shelf when I ordered mine. Turns out their price was about a third of what I had been quoted locally by a shop that couldnt deliver. Good luck!

    i found a 180 degree hi flow t-stat by MotoRad of America. not sure where in the USA they are sold, as i got it here in Vancouver at Canadian Tire.the only part no. on the pkg is 332-180.

    According to MotoRad their stats are avaiable @ any Autozone.

    I did some checking on Robertshaw and from what I have learned they have not stopped making thermostats. Autozone switched to Motorad, but there are supposed to be other sources for Robertshaw and I'm trying to find out who. I spoke to a distributor/manufacturer of theirs today that is supposed to let me know some sources.

    Gates sells a #33568 which is a 180 degree thermostat for the 95 model (single thermostat) truck. Carquest also has a 180 degree under their number 32488. I understand Motorad doesn't sell the 195 degree stat as they acknowledge that it is too hot for the 6.5, therefore the 332-180 which is a 180 degree unit. Motorad has the 7200-180 which is supposed to be for the newer 6.5 models with dual stats (also a 180 degree model).

    That rattle is also the sound of advanced timing programmed to help the engine give power when cold.

    Without the advanced timing, the engine would be harder to start even with glow plugs, since the the cold engine slows down combustion.

    On the mechanical pumps it's around 6 degrees advanced using the HPCA circuit; the DS4 is probably similar.
