I am in need of an affordable scan tool that will do both OBD1 and 2 vehicles
Actron makes a unit (number 9150) that will do both.
has anyone here had anything to do with or know of these units and are they worth looking at
Thanks
Robyn

'Bout one and quarter for a new GMTDScan and same for Carcode is way economical for fully-operational bi-di OBD1 and OBD2 scanners, vs same for a reader-only from actron\equiv.
Comparison-shopping for one that will do both will get you a new $5600 Tech2, which is just a tad more, crowding the ole bottom line.............

The buck and a quarter setup?? Is this a software only that runs on a lap top type???
I have a lovely lap top that I dont use much and if a CD and some cables would get it up and going it would be cool.

Yes - GMTDScan, Carcode, Autoenginuity, and several others are pcware, and will co-exist nicely on a suitable laptop - usually, choice of 9-pin serial or USB connection for the ALDL interface adaptor cable
Pcware is downloadable free from the website and installs easy - cash gets ya the license password to enable the functions.
OBD1, you can download GMTDScan Basic fer free, install it fer free, run it fer free - has no bi-di control functions, but you can monitor the various sensors in an instrument cluster arrangement - the ALDL cable can be built from free plans on the 'net, but Swedeburb sells a nice professional version for those that are skittish around a thermal solder dissolver.
Try it - you'll like it.............

I just bought a Equus OBD I and II/CAN scanner at amazon.com for $120. My friend/mechanic got the same one for over twice that much about 6 months ago elsewhere. For what I need, it is great. Reads, deletes, saves, and gives definitions for codes and can monitor the ECU and sensors in real time. For the money I couldn't find a better deal. If you want use your PC, it is also compatible and has CD and computer cable.
1998 K1500 Silverado Ext Cab SB 6.5TD L56 4L80E 342 locking rear - 60k miles
Modifications: Ported and ceramic coated exhaust manifolds, worked GM-8 turbo, L65 upper and lower intake, marine injectors, boost, EGT, and Trans Temp gauges, SSDiesel air intake, Hearthrob/SSDiesel stainless 3in down pipe, 4in exhaust, and 2.25 crossover.
Planned: Remapped ECU, intercooler, turbomaster, fluidamper, fan/clutch upgrade, upgraded oil cooler and lines, and lift.
Any updates on suggestions? Now that I have a ’94, I need to be able to deal with the computer to see what it is telling me.
