    Default Vin# 1gchk23143f168478 Check Please!!!

Hello i am new here, but have been reading here for awhile. this forum has the best info out there. money cant buy info. this good! i just recently purchased a 2003 hd2500 dmax w/ the lb7 motor. a couple off days later i crawled under it and noticed some big holes in the transmisson tunnel. i think it has been converted from a manual to a allison auto??? you cant see these holes from in the cab because they put new carpet in the front to cover them. could someone please do a vin# check to provide me w/ a build sheet and any info they can. VIN# 1GCHK23143F168478

    Welcome aboard!

You don't need a VIN check. In the glove box is a sticker with a bunch of codes on it. These are the RPO codes (Regular Production Options), and will tell you a lot more than a VIN check. The tranny code begins with an "M". List all the "M" codes and we can tell you what it came with.

That said, holes in the tranny tunnel does not mean it's been switched. GM tools the tunnel die for both tranny options, and covers the holes as appropriate. It isn't likely the tranny has been switched, but there would be several other indicators if it had been. I think I'd be more concerned with the reason for the carpet replacement (flood, etc).

M74 is the only m-code in the glove box. i greatly appreciate your help. what code would tell me if the truck has been switched from a maual shift transfer case to a push button? there is a 6x6 hole on the drivers side of the trans. tunnel. it is exposeed and still has black gasket material around it?
