Default The Drivers Information Center is In the Ballpark

When I pulled into the diesel pump this afternoon...

    1. The Drivers Information Center said that I had 57 miles to go before empty.

    2. The "low fuel warning" alert had come on 20 miles earlier.

    3. The owners manual says it's a 34 gallon tank.

    4. It took 32 gallons plus a pint of Opti-Lube XPD.

    5. I'm averaging 17.5 mpg.

That's cutting it wayyy too close for comfort.. specially in the wintertime.

    Hi,

My '01 very consistently threw the light on with four gallons of fuel left. The '09 I now have has repeatedly been within two gallons of empty when the light came on.

Try towing a 12k fifth wheel getting 10 mpg and see how close you want to cut it looking for a place to fuel up. So now when I'm on long trips towing, I have a five gallon container of fuel in the bed....

I think I'll make it SOP to stop for fuel when the "distance to empty" meter says 100 miles.

I'll also carry a 5-gallon can of fuel when possible.
