    Default truck pull edge level??

Ok, pulling the sled Wed. Placed 5 out of 14 last year, used level 2 of Edge w/ attitude.

Question is, will level 4 be toooo much and limp trans on a 300' track??
Will the trans make it to near the end before limping?
Would level 3 be a better choice, last year level 2 just traced a little smoke and ran out of power when truck up shifted to I think 4th gear.

Truck does not pull real hard, not a shard as pulling a 38' trailer in the mountains @ 23000#, probably because of low side transfer case and slipping tires on dirt, nothing slips on pavement.

put the trans in drive 3 4wd low range, then it wont upshift to 4th gear. i would run level 3 if your trans is stock, unless you are looking for a reason to upgrade your tranny.

The Alliosn seems to hold up pretty well in 4lo and occasional truck pulling. Problem that you will have is that if you have decent power you'll run out of RPM in 3rd with your setup.

I had a customer run my 500RWHP tune last season with decent results, but it will catch up with you.

John and lb7lbz, I am afraid of running out of power if it shifts to 4 in level 2.
But in level 3 I am afraid I may need gear 4 to use all the power especially if the track is wet and traction is poor. Right now tonight the track will be dry and should have good traction, tomorrow we are expecting rain and may have a wet track and we run tomorrow Wed..
    Thanks.

What about level 4????????????? Pours more smoke! Engine runs a little rougher, not always smooth.

    Third Place 273' !!
11 more inches was 2nd, and 11 more feet was first!
Used level 3, washer fluid injection, boost stick, locked third gear max, T/H, no AC, 40psi front 70 psi rear, 180# bolted behind front bumper out of site, torsion bars lowered, 22" hitch height giving up 4", max 26",,, 7780# giving up 220#, 265 16 Cooper tires about 40-50% tread,,, 8000# class "stock" diesel..

No smoke on video, last year level 2 showed smoke, yet this year level 3 no smoke!?? Why? I think maybe the water injection made the smoke diff, no water last year, right/wrong?????????

Pulled strong this year and think level 4 might be worth a try in two weeks..???
People said was the smoothest run of the night, no bouncing, no shaking, very smooth sounding engine and trans shifts.

how is water injection stock? Niice Pull, I am not sure what some of your abreviations mean though. H

With the power level that you have available you'd best stay in 3rd. You MIGHT get away with 4th due toi smallish tires, but 3rd with some extra RPM (not available with the Edge) would be what I would run. Power level will depend on what you can get away with in the "stock" class. More power will help get to speed quicker and hopefully build more momentum.

If you can get away with it clamp the rear springs with ubolts to "pre settle" the truck and stiffen up the spring pack. Then readjust your hitch height.

Yep, Maverick, not stock, but no one checks!! Some of the others were built a lot more than mine. I think the 180# helped keep the front end down and more front pull.

John, thanks for the tips,,, still think I may try level 4.

OK! pulled last night against the 8000# Pro Stock Diesel class! Way outmatched on $$$ spent and power produced. Placed 9th out of 20 paid out down to 8th, "missed by that much"!

Used level 5 Edge w/Attitude and this Edge has been turned up a little by Edge. Truck pulled good and smoked more, got hotter fast, sounded a lot louder. The sled was a lot heavier than Wed. night for stock diesel 8000# I knew real quick I had a big load!

Pumped up air assist suspension to 55psi and left front tires @ 65 psi rears 70 psi, otherwise same as Wed. night. Pulled 253' for 9th and on Wed pulled 273' for 3rd and had I used level 5 on Wed I would have won, no doubt in my mind.
Thanks for the advice it was used, except for JK to stay away from levels 4 and 5, sorry, just had to take the chance!, don't worry about the mule just hook the sled!! it's only money "just fix it"!!

I find it interesting to learn how you pull. i would not mind a try some time if I got the chance. Just to see how it would do!

Keep up the posts to know how you are doing and what things you have tried.

Maverick, first lol, laughing out loud! Second thank you and if it helps great!! Third, you would prob like pulling.
The rush once you know you're the next on the track, then on the track, easing into the throttle, being careful not to over spin the tires first few feet and not to hop/bounce and break something; then to listen to the engine and trans shifting watching the track picking a line, wanting to push a little harder but can't you're already maxed out, now slowing down come on baby come on a little more! and you stop and carefully get out of the throttle, no bounce, no sudden drop, just a nice smooth back to idle! you're done!

Pulled again last Tuesday, Hamilton County Fair, or Cincinnati Oh. Pulled 3rd place. First went to a first time puller w/ an 08 Dodge and about $7000 mods to engine, plus clutch,,,, by 4 feet over me, 2ft over 2nd a friend of mine w/an 08 F350 near stock, 40hp, tune...
Track was rough, traction was a little too good, not a lot of wheel spin. When you maxed out near the end you stopped hard and fast no wheel slippage, good way to break something. Actually killed my engine, think the lockup converter could not unlock fast enough, just a guess. If any body has a better one I'm listening.
