    Default Nasty noises,.CV?

I think my poor old truck has a pooched front axle,.
turning has some nasty crunchy clunky noises,.coming from the pass side,.
backing into a parking spot it sounded really rough,.
sometimes there is a speed dependant clicking sound too,.

Can the axle be changed without pulling balljoint or hub etc?

does the 8600lb 8 bolt truck have a heavier axle than the 6 bolt 7200lb truck?

    thanks

If it is the CV joint, you should be able to grab hold of it and rattle it around by hand. Lift the frame (which will allow for an extreme angle) and rotate the tire. If the joint is really bad, you should hear and feel it. While you're at it, grab the top of the tire and push/pull it in/out (not rotating the wheel). If it moves, it's the bearing (as well, or only).

i turned the wheels and grabbed the shafts,. didn't seem like there was any play,.
i just did front hubs and brakes 4 months ago,.i only have 265 tires on it,.
i did use 4wd on the weekend in high range,. just in some soft black mud,. but never even made the truck dirty,.i don't beat this unit,. its my daily driver,.

i hope its not the diff itself,.

so i drove it around with the bad noises beacause i,ve been busy,. i was parking in the cdn tire parking lot and the front wheel locked,. i had to backup a little and straighten the wheels and we were good to go,.
    that was the motivation,.
First order of business was the mortgage to buy a 36mm socket in 1/2" drive$60.00
I then bought 2 2007 hd front axles for $60 the pair,.less than 35,000 miles on them,.better deal than the socket,.
pass side was easy,. broke off the sway bar link (its a rust belt truck) and the axle/cv comes out easy,.just crank the wheels hard right.
The drivers side was a doosh!! had to drop the outer tie rod,. and then turn the steering hard right again so the centerlink and tierod were in further,.again bust off the sway bar link,.and had to pry and fight the darn thing out,.
The newer style axles have the inner circle cut out more around the bolt holes,.

so i put both 2007 k2500hd cv axles into my 94 k2500 8600lb truck, for any of you looking for cv axle interchange info
