Unhappy What Happens When You Don't Change the Oil - Ever?

A while back I visited a local diesel performance shop and saw where they were replacing the 6.0L PSD engine in Ford pickup truck. The truck had relatively low mileage. What caused the engine to fail? It turned out that not only did the engine fail, but both turbos also failed. This was a very expensive diagnosis..., but it answers the question: "What happens when you don't change the oil.... ever."

Back in the '70's the guy I worked for (who didn't even know how the hood release worked) asked me to change the oil in his Mercedes 250. Told me it was overdue. This made me not question the fact that the oil looked a little dark. My mistake for not asking how overdue...

I changed the oil and filter, and within 1000 miles the engine seized. The new oil filter was packed with carbon deposits and had gone into bypass. allowing the carbon to plug up every passage in the engine. A very costly mistake. When I finally asked him how overdue it was he told me he though it had been about 30,000 miles, but wasn't sure.

We had a guy in our shop that thought the analog oil pressure gauge was an indicator as to when to add oil. He drove our Dodge D50 Dreamer (Extended cab before they made them at the factory). When it was time to replace the vehicle we sold it to him.
