    Default Help! This worth $5000?

In the back hills of Montana, one could find just about anything…

I found this low mile 1994 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 93,916.8 miles single cab. It has been sitting for about 15 years. The current owner said he and a bunch of friends whom are mechanics tried to get it to run but couldn’t. He said over 15 years ago the last owner before him, tried to get it to run but couldn’t. Motor is not seized. I took a look at it and see a lot of oil around the oil pan and transmission pan. Blown rear main and prob every gasket imaginable after sitting that long not running. The body is straight as a whistle and interior is like new but dusty.

I offered $2000 as is and he counter offered me $5000… Very nice man but honestly I think $5000 for any non running truck is too much.

    What do you all think?

That may explain why it's been there 15 years. Not worth 5 grand for a dead 1/2 ton. 2 is a stretch. If "a bunch of mechanics" couldn't start it, it probably won't. Nice aux. fuel tank, though.

Agreed! Could be a number of unseen problems or could just be an injection pump.

    And a fifth wheel? In a 1500?

I noticed that. It isn't mounted (actually a pallet). I know of a bunch of 1/2 ton owners with 5'ers. Capacity is limited, for sure, but they do fine within that. More square footage for same length trailer, compared to a TT.

I guess the real question is… If it was running… What would it be worth? $10,000 in today’s expensive used truck prices? With my willingness and know how and Thedieselpage at my back, I bet I could get it running easy! But still…$5,000… woah. New injectors, new IP and pmd, I bet she would fire right up ehh? But that’s about another $2000+ just to get it running. Maybe another $1000 for gaskets, fuel, tires etc. so $8000 total potentially vested in a 1/2 ton.

Or just a new PMD and a fuel lift pump/OPS. Probably gonna need batteries, so that may be a deal breaker.

If it were a Honda Civic or Chevy Cruze, it may sell for twice what it's worth, in today's market. Full-size pickups, gas, Diesel, or otherwise, not a chance. Actually, they are depreciated. $5+ gas can do that.

    I agree...

The Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) value of the 1994 6.5TD Blazer my daughter owns is $6500 in "good" condition. It's worth that with an intact rebuilt engine.
