Default newbie with a bad slave cylinder, Cat 3116, eaton 6 MT

Hello all, I am new to GMC trucks, with a 1997 GMC T6500. It has the Cat 3116 engine with the Eaton fuller 6 speed manual and the clutch slave cylinder is leaking. Sad, because it runs great. But it squirts fluid when pumped and has been leaking for some time. I cannot find this clutch slave cylinder anywhere.

It has the hydraulic clutch and I can find the clutch pressure plate, and friction disc, but not the center mount slave cylinder with release bearing

GM part is 15002655. it also has mercedes, opel and sachs part numbers, but doesnt seem to exist anywhere online. I did find one for a john deer tractor that looked like it would fit, but I need some help.

    Welcome aboard!

I suggest a visit to a local heavy duty truck service or dealership parts dept, not necessarily specific to GM. The part you need is in a package used by several manufacturers. I did a web search for heavy duty truck parts and found many references to the part, but no USA sales outlets that didn't require an account to search inventories (probably where you'll end up, if online). They all listed phone numbers. I found a Sachs brand (3182000009) online in Europe, for $1200 USD. USA references suggest the part is priced $150-200, if you find one in stock.

That is the similar conclusion I have come to. I am kind of amazed nobody has had this problem before. I will check with the other suppliers. Also, I promise to list all the part numbers and the updated number if I can find an updated one. I did find one that was for a john deere tractor that was just a couple numbers off, and looked exactly the same.

I should have asked before, but are you certain the cylinder is leaking, and not a line, coupling, or connection? Can you provide a source for a pic of the actual part? I found some pics, but they were not all the same. I cannot confirm which part is what you have. Some of them looked like they could be repaired. The Sachs number you list is different than what I listed, but I found both, among other parts that were obviously wrong. They don't appear to be the same part, by the pictures I found.

I didn't find the GM part number to be discontinued. It was only unavailable with no known date of restock, or simply not listed. Discontinued parts are almost always listed and labeled as such. The part may be discontinued, but none of the sources I found showed that. Also consider, this part was never a GM part, but had a GM part number because it was used in a GM vehicle powertrain. Your truck and powertrain series is 25+ years out of production, which is one reason I suggest not looking for a GM red herring. That powertrain was superseded after 1998 (Cat 3126), but the general powertrain package may have continued on with many of the same parts, including the clutch slave. Any heavy duty service or dealership shop would know how to source the part. They may also have unique access to salvaged parts. A used part that doesn't leak is better than what you have now.

    Default thanks for reply!

I am 90% sure it is the cylinder, but I will take a good look today. the entire inside of the bell housing is caked in burnt black goo. As far as the sach's number, the last digit is covered and I cant read it, but it is a round number like 0, 5, or 6. I spent hours calling gmc truck suppliers and clutch specialists and nobody seems to know what I am talking about. I am going to order the part on Spareto and cross my fingers, I have bad luck with international orders, and websites from countries I can't identify on a map. The pic looks the same. and the number says it is a replacement for GM 15002665. I will report back and try and post a pic of what I have, thank you for the help.

I have tried a few parts places, and I can't source a used one.

Also on the spareto website, it has numerous crossover part numbers and one is a john deere part for a tractor, so I might just try it...thanks again.

Have a look at the following link (it's not a sales listing, I think). I want to make sure we are chasing the same part. The part numbers match the Mercedes # you listed and the Sachs # I crossed, as well as the description.

I am happy to say, that series of part numbers worked, though it did take a bit of searching, I got the correct slave cyl from a opel supplier in europe, and it was expensive, but the truck is fixed, and 1000$ later, the clutch is perfect!

That's great! Please post the actual part number and source, as a permanent record. I'm sure you aren't the only one with this combination, and everything fails, at some time or another. Thanks!
