My dad has a 97' 2500 extra cab long box, 6.5TD, 5speed 4x4 tranny. His cab harness is all hacked up by the POS owner that he bought it from. I have a 97' harness from unknown source ... I believe reg cab 3/4T 4x4 with auto
Can we take the auto harness and install it into his truck without any issues related to the tranny ... I am thinking the computer might not like it but I am not sure
I know of no reason you can not use the harness from the truck with auto trans, you will need to make sure your wire harness has the correct connector to how up the the Veicle Speed Sensor mount on the back of the transfer case ( shound be the same) the only thing else is the netural saftey swtich I don't know where it is located on a manual trans truck, If you are don't feel comfortable changing it over you could fix the wiring presently installed. I have had to fix a couple of these hacked up jobs before it normally takes twice as long as you plan good luck.
