Wanted to share this with all.....

Symptom:
rattling, light/moderate knocking sounds coming from front of engine at idle;goes away with light throttle input. Vibration felt in cab at idle, smoothes out with power application.Knocking noise noted at engine shutdown. Noise disappears when serpentine belt removed.

Cause:
crankshaft pulley(not balancer) rubber shredded causing looseness of outer pulley ring in relation to inner hub. Both parts rattle against one another "metal to metal" during operation.

Solution: replaced pulley with GM part. $225 @ local dealer.Replacement time 30 minutes.

It seems to go at about 100,000 miles, sure hope you didn't do any other damage like a broken crankshaft. Mine did not rattle until it broke. Keep an eye & ear peeled for any strange noises in the future. Wish you well.
