    Got an 82 C-30 diesel crewcab than needs new engine installed in it. Got a Mr. Goodwrench engine to put in it but no time. Does anyone know of a mechanic or shop in Southern California area that would install the engine for me? It has an automatic and Banks Turbo kit installed. Looking for a reasonable price and mechanic that will not ruin this new engine.

    Thanks

    Without making advertising here, you could call Banks power ( Mike ) they know a lot of serious people who can do the job, they give me some good lead.

    Mike at Banks told me that he likes a guy in Torrance I think? Anyway I would be interested to know of a good motor builder in So Cal San Diego County if possible

    Mike at Banks sounds like a good resource. What is his last name?

    I was in the same position trying to find a shop in California to put in my engine. I finally went to Diesel Tune. They did a decent job. I only found two items that they missed. Both items were brackets that took me twenty minutes to put in. They offered to pay for it since I lived in Northern California. They are good....IMHO they have too many hands(helpers) removing/mounting the accessaries, etc. So if you did not take it off then you could forget it as per my truck. If you are real fussy, like me, you will not find anyone. Those brackets DID bother me since I did pay $,$$$.$$ for the job. I can also tell you that nothing was left loose by them.

    Thanks Crew84;
    Where is Diesel Tune located. Have not heard of them. I will call them and get an estimate. I am with you though, a mechanic that knows his stuff can install an engine in very short order. Not many manhours to just install a 6.2 engine. Rebuilding an engine add manhours.

    Ok, I just got off the phone with Dave at Diesel Tune. They are located in Downey, Ca at the 605 & I-5. Sounded very knowledgeable. I think I will be taking my truck to him soon. His rate is $75/hr. but I haven't had much luck finding any one else. John

    Called Diesel Tune, they want about $2500 for the switch. Dumas Diesel would not do a swap unless it was their engine. Got a reference to W.P. Auto Repair from Diesel Injection Service in San Bernardino. W.P. quoted $800 in labor.

    Dumas diesel seems to be good , they work on big trucks and all kind of diesels i think its biger than diesel tune and looks like they do more business, i dont know why i did not know about them before i took my truck to service.

    Question

    My cost from Diesel Tune was a little over $1500.00 in 2001 and that was to install my engine and Banks Turbo System. Now I do not know what was involved with the $2500. that you were quoted, but they charge for everything extra.

    Thumbs up

    I went to Bond's Automotive to do my install. He was very reasonable and they got it done in short order. Had the engine shipped directly there and they did a fine job. Mike from Banks sent me there, though I wound up installing the turbo myself.

    He's located in El Cajon, and if anyone is interested, I can dig up his number.
