Is it possible to replace a 4L60E with a 4L80E without much headache? My K2500 LD has a 4l60e and it burned up 3rd gear pulling a long grade. It lasted 160,000 miles and pulled alot so I am not all that upset about it. I would just rather have the strength of a 4l80e. It is a 4x4. I know it will bolt up to the engine, I am just wondering about dimensions. Can the 4L60E be beffed up to withstand more towing? I am planning on throwing some more upgrades at the engine (6.2TD) and want it last.

I am wondering if it may be worth it to just rebuild the 4L60E and beef it up. I am sure it can be built to withstand alot. Then again, it did withstand alot. 160000, 125,000 of which had a 5th wheel horse trailer is pretty good.

What would happen if you would try just hooking it up to the 4L60E wiring? I noticed that all the transmission reading seemed to be correct on my scan tool with a J vin selected. (they forgot the C vin in the scan tool software for 93 for some reason)
