I just put a new deeper chrome pan on my 700R4. It holds 8 qts on a pan change instead of 5 qts with the factory pan. It has the cooling fins on the bottom and has a drain plug. I got it for $15 & shipping from eBay.

I did this for the increased fluid capacity and with hopes of helping the tranny to run a little cooler and I got my wish. It runs about 10 degrees cooler on the highway in our 95 to 100 degree Missouri heat.

That was a good modification. I have the chrome B&M deep pan on my 700R4, but I have had it long before I added the transmission temperature gauge.

I knew it was "the right thing to do" from basic physical principles - thanks for the data to back up the theory.

I drove it today to Memphis which is about a 220 mile round trip for me. We are getting a bunch of rain from the hurricane. I only drove it about 60 with the torque convertor still not locking up on trips. It stayed under 100 degrees. So the pan is making a difference.

Where do you have your sensor located?

I have it inline on the output side of the remote filter. I have the fluid coming out of the tranny to the remote filter then to the cooling tank in the radiator and then to the external cooler in front and back to the transmission.
