    Question

A guy at work was asking me about my Duramax and he asked me how many cubic inches is this motor. I told him that it is a 6.6 liter but I'm not sure exactly about the cubic inch size. Can someone tell me?

yes you pull out your handy steam tables and look in the conversion tables in the back and you find that to obtain Cu. In. multiply liters by 61.03 which gives you 402.798

    403 C.I.D.

How much is that in Canadian?
GM's been throwing everything else in on their deals. Bet they get some extra cubes too.

Dmax Maverick: I don't know what the C.I.D. in Canada is but the horses are smaller up here so all Canadian Duramax's have 400 of them.

Since our diesels have more stroke than a gasser, What would the cubic inches be if stroke was the same as say the 8.1 liter?

    cylindrical displacement = pi * r squared * h

From the Chevy website: bore = 103mm, stroke = 99mm

    ((103mm bore / 2) squared) * pi * 99mm stroke * 8 cylinders = 6599.1729794629550604cc's, or thereabouts.

divide that by (2.54 cubed) to get ci ... 2.54 is an exact conversion ... the answer is 402.706243135519355ci

    But who's counting.

Like the Chevy web site says, 403ci

The 8.1 is 107.95mm bore x 111mm stroke. So the 8.1 is bigger in both bore and stroke and is actually a slightly undersquare motor, where ours is slightly oversquare.

ZF, In confirming, that is for the 6.6L, correct? I know it is...

Another, same way: 6.6 / 0.016387 (a predetermined conversion factor) does indeed = 402.whatever you said. I say 403 is close enough for the government.

    The formula is: 1 liter = 61.02374 cubic inches. 6.6 x 61.02374 = 402.7567.

However, 402 or 403 is close enough for government work as someone already pointed out.

403 cubic inches! I like it!

What would be cool is if the Beach Boys would record a new version of their song " 409 " for us. Maybe one of them owns a Duramax? Think about it.
