there are rumors that the H1's will get a durmax from the factory in 2004, but no real proof yet. Jim Lynch of www.lynchhummer.com has installed a few duramax conversions for about 30K each, it's quite an involved project. I have a 160hp NA hummer which is a dog on the road, and plan on installing a banks kit for an 80's chevy truck, it will work with a few mods. my goals are 200hp short term and later do a 300 hp rebuild with low compression pistons and bigger turbo
1993 hummer, 6.2L, not as slow anymore, K+n air filter, AMG resonator pipe, modified air filter housing, and 1/6th turn of the injection pump screw. I love every minute driving it.<br />Future plans include 2 inch body lift, Rod Hall springs, 42 inch swampers.
Man! Talk about high dollar mods. I think your plans for upgrades are way better than 30 large for a DMAX transplant. I have read about crate-type performance rebuilds for the 6.5 and 6.2 diesels. Seems like that would really wake up a Hummer. The ones I drove in the Army were very poor in the acceleration dept., but they sure would go anywhere. I wonder how much the 2004s will cost with the DMAX....the H1 is already way more than I would pay for an SUV...but I guess if I had a 100K laying around, I would think about it

That's why I traded in a truck and a jeep on my old 93 civilian hummer. The older civilian models can be found for 25-35K depending on mileage and condition and the surplus humvees can be had for 15-22K. All of these are ebay price ranges I have seen, forget the new ones, they are way more. But I can tell you that 99.9% of people cannot tell the difference between mine and a new one, it was a low mileage garage kept with great paint, so it still looks almost new. It sure is a fun truck, if you are into 4x4's.

Just toasted the Engine in my '97 Hummer (this will be the 2nd time it has needed to be replaced), and I was disturbed to find out the the extended "GMPP" warentee has the option of putting in a used, rebuilt or junkyard motor. I was looking forward to have the newly designed AMG block (stronger than the GM version) but it looks like I have to find one from some place other than the warentee company. From "Big Red's" earlier post of mounting Lower compression pistons a "bigger Turbo" sounds ideal but I dont think any company has ever made a "biger turbo" to fit in the Hummer/ GM Van application. If any one know how to get a good buy on the AMG block and any performance upgrades (that fit into the Hummer engine bay, let me know) . My direct email is t.velardi@snet.net

P.S. If you're just interested in custom pistons, try Peninsular Diesel. I know they make a set of 18:1 - do I know this cause I'm smart, 'cause I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express - NO. I know 'cause I read it right here on the Diesel Page!!! Yeee Haaa!! I love this site!
