I now have 12,000 miles on my DMax and want to switch over to synthetic oil. Can you guys help out and recomend the top brand to use. Also are there any good aftermarket oil filters? Thanks

The Amsoil 5W-30 or 15W-40 and the SDF-62 oil filters.

    Greg!!!

Are you sure about the SDF62???

I've been ordering SDF52. This is what I was told replaced the LF524.

Amsoil 15w-40 in mine for almost 50K and doing 10K change intervals. Very pleased with it. Using less than one quart between changes.

Mobil Delvac-1, Shell Rotella....They're all good. I just prefer amsoil.

    Thumbs up

I just looked up on AMSOIL's website and they have 2 different 15-40's... a heavy duty and a regular... which one should I get? And for the filter they reccomend LF524.. Does this sound right?

I recently found out that the Amsoil filter is made by Baldwin and that Baldwin oil filters were down there at the bottom of the barrel on quality.

After reading some oil analysis test on filters I am going to only us the AC Delco filter.

I know this might step on some toes but it's my opinon and you know everybody has one.

The SDF-52 is whats used on the Dmax just a typo on the 62. As for Amsoil filters being at the bottom of the barrel it is just opposite of that. Just because Baldwin makes does not mean the are bad, they are made to Amsoil spec. Plus nothing wrong with regular Baldwin filters. If you think AC Delco is something special you better think again. Yes it is made to GM spec but as we all know that is driven by cost.

    Todd,
Where did you read about the Baldwin filters? Dr Lee's article several years ago put them at the top.

Amsoil 15-40 Diesel-Marine does a good job as evidenced by oil sample tests alond with the SDF-52 filter. The oil comes in a 2.5 gallon container, one jug, one change. The last jug I received was rated at "CI", I haven't seen that anywhere else yet.
