Getting Connected

The information presented here is directly related to the Duramax Diesel Power Project, but it can also apply to the 1988-98 and newer trucks. Covered in this update will be a discussion about tail lights and GM's Passlock II security system. Both topics need to be considered when retrofitting a Duramax/Allison into an earlier vehicle, and we'll discuss a couple of aftermarket products that help solve some interface problems.

would it not be easier to use a D-MAX inter- cooler?

You could.... However, the Dmax IC core is a little taller, and won't fit into the C/K radiator core support without removing the top IC core row. And, DMax IC's are difficult to find on the salvage market, and expensive when bought new.
Good used DC IC's are pretty available, with prices between $150-300. The DC IC core will fit the C/K rad core support without trimming. The inlet/outlet just need to be repositioned.
So, to answer your question, the Dodge intercoolers are cheaper and require fewer mods.
Both the Dmax and Dodge intercoolers are produced by same manufacturer (Behr).
