Talking Would you believe a 2001 and 317,000 mi.?

I sold my 2001 D/A 2500HD crew cab srw, that I bought new, to a good friend about a year ago with 285,000 miles on it. It now has 317,000 miles. It was a loaded SLT and used with a 38 foot Featherlite trailer for my business. I build hot rods and Corvettes for people accross the country and offer personal service, so I travel a lot for pickups, deliveries and some shows. As of this day, the truck is literally in perfect condition, everything works great and it gets 18 - 19 MPG unloaded and 10 - 11 MPG with 12,000 - 14,000 lbs of trailer. Other than a nightmare of injector problems (it's on it's 3rd set of injectors), It has had no problems or repairs. I have done regular services religiously and of course new tires as necessary. Believe it or not, it still has the original brake pads! The truck is 100% stock, except for the gooseneck hitch, 56 Gal fuel tank from transfer flow and my Sirius satelite radio. I now have an equivalent 2005 D/A 3500 srw with 120,000 miles and I love it. No problems, not even injectors

Thumbs up Still Love My '02 D/A 2500HD with 168,000 Miles

I too chose Duramax after lurking on this site for months. Thank you. I took delivery of my Chevy 2500HD Ext. Cab LS D/A delivery 09/08/2001. It has had a relatively light duty life even though I've put on 168,000 miles: I live in Monument, Colorado. Drive 100 miles round trip to work and back each weekday. Take two lane roads to Denver; generally travel at 55mph. I get 19 to 20 mpg in winter; 20 to 21 mpg in summer. I also pull a 26.5ft 5th wheel camper around Colorado and surrounding states a couple times a year on vacation. I can achieve 12mpg while pulling if I stay on two lane roads and run around 55mph. The truck still drives beautifully. I run Michellin M&S 265 75 16's and get 50,000 out of them. Dino Oil. It still has the original brake pads all around. Nuetral Safety switch replaced at 38,000, just out of warranty. All the injectors replaced under warranty at 104,000 and again at 119,000 under warranty. 1st replace may not have used the updated injectors. New Batteries 2 months ago. Left front axle seal replaced 2 weeks ago. I figure I spent all my fuel savings on maintenance costs over the years but, I still love this truck. Plan to keep it to 300K miles and year 2012.

    2002 Chevy 2500HD Duramax Diesel

I bought this 2002 Chevy 2500HD Duramax powered truck in August of 2002, which replaced a 1994 6.5L 2500 ext short box. I followed the progress of the Duramax on The Diesel Page with much anticipation. This truck was everything that you guys said it was.

I use this truck for towing cargo trailers, 29' camper trailer, 20' boat, and for work. I install commercial kitchen equipment for restaurants, hospitals, and various institutions, so I travel all over the East Coast and as far away as Texas. As far as maintenance on this truck, I change the oil about every 7,500 miles and the fuel filter every 12,000 miles. I used Shell Rotella 15-40 since new. I've never used any fuel additive, but in hindsight perhaps I should have. I had all the injectors replaced at 180,000 miles under warranty. The Bosch high-pressure fuel pump was also replaced at 240,000 + miles - now I run Stanadyne fuel additive in the fuel. The truck routinely delivered 21 mpg till the injectors were replaced, which dropped fuel economy to the 18 mpg range. Plans include running this truck to at least 300K before I replace with it another Duramax.

    Default Miles high?

I have a pair of Chevy Duromaxs. The 04 has just under 290,000, The 06 was just a year old, has 186,000. Neither has had injectors or any major problems. Looking at a 07.

I should have been a bit more careful in my choice of words/generalization...I do believe that the older Ford diesels were actually quite good and did in fact live long. I was referring to the newer models that I have heard are not quite so good at longetivity.

    steak2k1,

Not a problem. Sorry if I got a little defensive. I'm kind of a ford guy..... or at least a 95 f350 psd guy. In reality I think they all break, but I'm not to happy with the ford 6.0 either. the wife's getting the lbz

    Default High miles

Ok so I bought my "01 Duramax?Allison truck from a norh slope oil company...first off I love to say it is running really great. If you can find on standard cab 4x4 for less than $11,500 go for it. Typical of slope workers they had cut the e-brake cable, added block heaters, pan heaters, tranny heaters, cut hole in roof for search lights and more. On the good side it came to me with 2 newer Red top Gell cells. I did have to replace the worn 7.5 radials with 265/75/16 E rated BF all terrain, I also added a full K&N filter and intake set. I was/am still amazed with the 1-2 Gallon per mile I have gained. Now for the cool part, my truck has well over 6 thousand running hours on the motor and is a will keep being our dailiy driver for a few mor years I want to know who else has this really high miles and what if and issues have they had!!!!

    Default high milage

Not a diesel but I thought it needs to be reconized because a gas motor with over 350,000 I feel needs some respect. 1990 GMC 1500 4x4 Z71 ext cab with the true 350 motor still used. Just got the 2007 Duramax and selling the 1990 GMC still a good tight truck.

Alaskamax, I doubt your truck from the north slope has a whole lot of miles on it, its hard to rack up a lot of miles during white outs, but they used to keep the engines running all the time when the temp got really low, so a lot of those 6000 hours is probably idle time, non the less thats a lot of hours, if the average speed was 30 mph that would amount to 180,000 miles, maybe when I drive up to Alaska next time I'll look you up and see this truck. In fact I'd really like to visit the plant at Prudo Bay since some of the equipment I designed t has been there since the 70's. I'd like to see how it still looks inside those modules. I may just have to check into that before I head up there. Probably be 3 or 4 years away yet, before I'll have the time, but I'm going to make that trip on day.
