Hey everyone, I'm the new guy!

I own a 89 6.2 suburban. I have a question regarding the steering. Like most older chevys my powersteering is extremely senistive. A lot of work keeping the burb in my lane on the freeway. Does anyone know any tricks or know of any aftermarket powersteering replacements?

How are your Suburban's steering components (i.e. ball joints, tie-rods, pittman arm, etc.)? How about the front-end alignment?

Hi there,
Check that the steering box is adjusted properly.
If the steering column can be turned quite a bit before the drop link moves it will be needing adjusted.


If the Steering box adjustment seems ok then check out the rest of the linkages and joints as suggested by Jim.

When you have a good drift like that, you need to start at the tires and work back.

Are the tires good and evenly worn? Aligned?
Are the wheel bearings good?
Are the ball-joints good?
Are the tie-rods good?
Are the drag-link ends good?
Is the pitman arm good?
Is the frame cracked at the steering box mount? Are the bolts tight?
Is the box itself leaking?
Is the rag-joint good?

You can do some adjustments within the steering box too, but they seem to be usually set up right, and are very sensitive to adjustment, so I wouldn't recommend it until the last thing.
