    Default Main fuse panel ??

In stripping down my 85 Blazer Project I removed all the wiring harness's inisde and out, to be replaced by the ones from the 87 Burb.

When the outside portion of the fuse panel/electrical box is removed the entire area within the plugs is coated with a nasty BLACK GOOP.

I am massuming that this stuff is to prevent water entry and corrosion of the connections.

Can these be connected right back together without issue or should this black goop be cleaned out and or ????

I have never taken a rig this far apart before.

Yep...Ain't no easy way out of this one. The gooop has got to gooo. Road tar remover or lighter fluid (Zippo, Ronsonal, or just plain naphtha) works well to clean it up (it's asphalt, or something link it). Use sparingly.

Reassemble with double sided sheet tape. I forget what it's called (mastic, maybe), but 3M and Dupont both make it, about 3/16" thick. Cut it out like a gasket, stick it on both sides of the firewall, and tighten it down. Or, use RTV (last resort). Good for another 25 years.
