Still less expensive than a new truck...
Or a battery replacement in a cordless vehicle

Change of plans for the dually, it's going to get a Cummins. Both trucks are Blue 90 4x4 crews
How's the body? My '06 was starting to rust when I sold it and that was 9 years go! (To say nothing of the brake and fuel lines I replaced on the way!)

Unless you know the rebuilder, a $6300 engine will not be much of an engine. I don't trust any of the big name rebuilders out there. I know Greg from Lube Specialist had 2 or 3 from the one that's about the biggest name in the engine biz that were junk before he went to a smaller more personalized and specialized shop, and even that one he had a few minor issues to work through.
HG job on yours and should be good to go another round

It's a tough call, but think about this for a minute. You expect to get a good reman for less than the cost of doing head gaskets. The head gasket part of the job has to happen for both PLUS pistons, bearings, etc Things just don't add up.

I think JK's point is that a $6300 reman sounds too good to be true...

I wonder what the terms of the warranty are?
Not sure if I would trust someone who calls them "galley plugs" though...

In 2021, I replaced the head gaskets (plus new factory head bolts, fuel system banjo seals, etc) in Lil Red for about $300. I added ARP studs, a new water pump and new injectors to my 2001 GMC head gasket project, also in 2021. That wound up costing about $3300 total, if I remember correctly.
The mileage that your original engine has wouldn't concern me if it's not been abused. In fact, I'd rather trust it over than the quality of a questionable rebuilt engine. One question I've yet to see answered concerning a Duramax reman is "Did the engine need to be bored?" I've yet to see a cylinder bore on these engines that was worn. The cylinder bores are induction hardened at the factory. Boring them removes the hard layer.

The LB7 reman injectors I installed in my 2001 GMC came from Kennedy - $2200, if I remember correctly, was the cost for 8. I also installed new injector fuel lines at a cost of about $650 and ARP studs for $650 - plus misc consumables. I'd have to dig out the receipts to be accurate on prices, but this is in the ball park. I actually wound up not installing the new water pump, so that cost isn't figured in. I also could have cleaned and re-used the fuel lines if this had been a budget squeaker - saving another $650.
I re-used the injectors and injector fuel lines when I did Lil Red, because the engine only had about 8,000 miles on it. Lil Red's heads didn't need to be decked, and I installed factory head bolts when it went back together instead of ARP - that saved $500. Glow plugs can be tested before they're re-installed. No need to replace them if they're still in good shape.
