The material you found is good advice.

I usually placed all the pistons so they were in the hole a bit before bolting the heads on.

Same reason the 30 degree spec is given.
MAKES SURE THAT NO VALVES CAN HIT A PISTON.
Installing the rockers AND HAVING PISTONS AT TDC is not a deal killer.
Simply tighten the rocker shaft bolts slowly..
Once the slack is out and the push rods are "Snug" a slight bit more tightening on the bolts and allow the lifters to bleed down.....Then a bit more tightening and so on until the rocker shafts seat and the bolts reach torque value.
The trouble can happen if you toss the rocker shafts/rockers on and "BUZZ" the bolts down with an air impact.....You could stuff a valve into a piston and if ya get real rough....CAUSE damage....

The 6.5 usually does not have marks on the damper.....The electronic injected engines are all timed using a scan tool to set the TDC offset.
The computer actually sets the timing...

Marking the I P and the front cover is essential before removing the IP....This allows you to get the IP back into the same spot as the factory had it....From there the internal parts of the IP can be moved with the stepper motor and the timing can be set to spec by the computer.

Getting the IP too far one way or the other at the mechanical mounting and the stepper will not be able to achieve desired timing and the computer will complain and set a code.

You can loosen the IP and move it and try again....Just a royal PITA .....So nice to just match up a scribe line and things will go back to work....
