Default 1986 6.2l Electric fuel pump

I replaced the mechanical lift pump on my GMC a few years back. The new one started leaking again so I purchased an Electric pump and installed it on the frame after the tank switching valve. Now while I wait for the glow plugs to cycle there is fuel pressure in the IP before I crank the engine. It really works well.

    Welcome to the Forums!

Thanks for the info. Quality parts are often hard to come by, but OEM quality fuel lift pumps are still available, some with lifetime warranties. A little more pricey, but worth it. I like electric pumps fine, and they have their advantages, but mechanicals do, as well. Simplicity, safety, and repair cost, to name a few. I've replaced a dozen or 3 over the years.

    A couple questions...

Did you bypass the mechanical lift pump? If so, how? Tube fittings or hose/clamps?

What fail-safe lift pump control are you using? (the control that stops the pump if you get in a crash, for example)

I bypassed the mechanical pump with a steel braided line with threaded fittings. My brother did the same swap and left the mechanical pump in line.

I use 2 relays and use the Glow plug relay for power at startup and one for ground when there is no oil pressure.
