2006 was a transition year for the powertrain. It got the LBZ and 6 speed, but kept the LLY code and power programming. My son has a 2007 GMC "Classic" 1/2 ton, which is the same as the 2006, mostly, sometimes. 2007 was a transition year for the body. Transition years, with GM, generally start in January of a calendar year, in the middle of a model year. For the later Silverado/Sierra models (they were previously only trim level names), this was M/Y's 88, 98, 07, and a couple more since. Some models, weight capacities, and powertrains, get hung up in between, and often get some updates but not others, or get pushed off for years (there were no GMT 800 in 1999 above 8600 GVW, no 3500, but the 3500HD OBS was still made, until 2001, for example). Getting the right parts for these models can be a chore. Sometimes, we have to match it to a 2007 Classic Chevy, or the 2007 GMC NBS, for my son's truck. Your powertrain is more like the LBZ in most respects, so if parts don't match, look for the LBZ part, late 2006 or 2007 "Classic" for a match. Don't even trust a VIN match. Look at the part. The parts stores are getting better, but we still have issues.
