Well, Ive been playing around on the the GM site trying to figure out what options I would like on my new truck. So my question is: What options would you opt for now or stay away from if you had to do it over again?

    Thanks

It depends on whar you plan on using your truck for....but I have a loaded LS crew cab 4x4. I opted for all the trailering stuff and also included the G 80 locking diff( the D-max has so much torque....without the locker, that one tire would be spinning alot). I also love having the Allison.

Just my opinion...hopefully others can shed light on what they like/dislike about their trucks.

    Good Luck!

Crew Cab for sure. If you plan on upgrading the stereo, go the cheap OEM, and same with tires. My new Fireflops never rolled under my @$$. I put Michelins on it right there on the lot. Fog lamps are a P.O.S. so that's your call. Power seats are nice (40/20/40 is my preference). I prefer the Duramax engine and the Allison automatic tranny. Short bed or long bed is your choice (fuel tank capacities differ with each). I did not order the MPG feature. I use the machine as I need it and leave the rest up to useless, bandwidth hogging statistics. And if you pay $40,000, like many here have professed that they paid (I doubt it unless they got a spare engine), your leaving money on the table.....

I agree, the fog lamps are worthless and so are the pull out camping mirrors. (2003 they are supposedly bigger and more improved.) I would surely get the G80 no matter what. I have an LT optioned truck which means they add all the extra stuff and I am happy with all the little gadgets it came with. As for everything else the options are up to you, they all seem to be excellent "creature comforts".

Ditto to all of the above and for sure DO NOT get the trailer mirrors...they suck and you can't add power aftermarket mirrors unless you modify the door panel for the switch. Also a big 10 4 on the G80 locking diff. & the trailer package (power hook-ups). I would go extended cab unless you got a garage the size of the Lincoln Tunnel. In retrospect though I should have gotten the crewcab.
    Good Luck

    Cool

I agree that the fog lights are not great and ext cab or crew depends on your needs and number of passengers. I like the short box because you can park in some places. As for the mirrors, I personally find nothing wrong with the camper mirrors and I don't need or want power to them. It all comes down to choice and the amount of cash you want to spend.
What ever you get, you will love it!!!!

Thanks for all the responses!! I didn't tell what I was looking at as not to lead the answers. I'm looking at a D/M Crew with LT interior and 4x4. The web site had the truck listed at $45,000 MSRP. I had opted for the trailering package and other incedentals. I'm still trying to find a complete list of RPO numbers for the truck. Any clues?

I had 3 links to the RPO needs and now they are not available. "Page not found". Apparantly, the archives are short lived and long needed.

But, alas, I found the word doc on my HD (not heavy duty.)

How are ya supposed to follow a post like THAT???

    Anyhoo,

Oneton, seeing you have a conversion truck already, I'd suggest doing just what you did, and go LT, skip the BS, add the trailer pkg, 5th wheel wiring stub, locking rear, climate control skid plate pkg, and if you like, the roof marker lamps. There's not much more to add! Do your own tires...

I did everything but the roof lamps and tires, and haven't regretted it once...

^........... , I took it as such. Sometimes my QA Engineering background, in the nuclear world, comes out wrong. I did not mean to insult JK. Afterall, I want one of his (soon to be hand-held programmable) boxes . This nuclear stuff has me in a mind-set box and that's bad. Too much radiation exposure. No harm intended JK, nor anyone else.

Order everything and strongly consider the long bed. It's a mere 20"s longer and for the 300.00, you'll appreciated when you need it. My 96 was a short bed and it was a pain to haul 4x8' plus tools etc in the back. I know that some people have been disappointed in the fog lights but hey, the switch and all the wires are run so it would just be a matter of replacing the lights or installing new ones and adding a little bit of wire to splice into the existing.

    Good luck

I was sorta in a rush when I ordered mine so I just told salesman to get the LT CC Long Box 3500. I definately wanted the climate control air and did not like the TT mirrors. After that check all the boxes I said, and left. Four months later I love the truck, could not be better except I tow a fiver and everytime I walk around it I wonder why I needed the trailer hitch platform.............

The trailer hitch platform, although a chinsy hitch, gets you the wiring if I am not mistaken. Without it, I believe the trailer tow group wiring isn't used. I could be wrong. For $35 the fifth wheel wiring stub sure is handy too!

When I did the math, I figured the CC was only 10" longer than the EC, and there was no way I was going to get a short box. Absolutely happy with my choice!

Get the bucket seats also. I almost "settled" for a truck with the split seat setup that otherwise was exactly like I wanted. (Didn't want to chance waiting 6+ months for an order to be fulfilled.) While the split seat felt more comfortable than every bucket seat that I've had in other vehicles, the bucket seats are even better. I've taken several long trips already and no back problems at all, and this is in a one-ton.

Ask and you shall receive. LOL. The responses are more than I hoped to get.(in a good way) I can't wait to get my truck. One of my Contractors that I do business with got one and now he's asking when I'm going to get mine. Thanks again guys and I hope I can be cruising in my new D/M soon. Oh, and BTW.. have you seen a converted D/M yet? I'm checking around to see if I can get Rocky Ridge to convert mine to the same paint scheme I have now. I think it would be the bomb!!

    oneton,

    I have a 2002 GMC SLE - D/A,CC,SB,4x4,G80 etc.
When I ordered mine I only needed a 6FT bed. I am a tile contractor/installer. Anyway I opted for no SLT for a couple of reasons:

One- The leather with heat is nice, but if you read the fine print the front bucket seating surfaces are leather, NOT the back seat(simulated leather.)
The onstar for me personally can't replace my cell phone or pager for convenience or price.

Beyond that the SLE I ordered is loaded with all available options except for:

Skid Plates- I don't need 'em.
Roof Lights- I didn't like the center light bar!!!
Dual alts. - wish I had known about them.
Climate Control - Don't think it was available on an SLE, anyway I like to adjust it myself.

Bottom Line - It should be what you want, but it's nice to get others opinions too. This site helped choose a Dmax over a gas engine and the wealth of free knowledge here is priceless!!!

    Good luck to you,

    GMC

If it was me, I'd figure out what I needed in a truck and what I was going to do with it and then look at what was offered in the way of options and make an informed decision on what I had to have. Then look at what additional options was available and get what I could afford. After that, I'd look at this forum and go completely nuts like "Mackin" and order everything out there.

I recall pricing both the SLE and the SLT. After adding all the extra options I wanted to the SLE it was only an extra $1,000.00 to get the SLT. Plus you get all the goodies on the SLT that you can't have on the SLE. I figured whats another $1,000.00 when you are spending just about $40,000.00. Resale should be better also.
