How about a high miles contest?

Any year 6.2, highest mileage recorded on the odometer wins - your choice of any TDP Book.

If you win, we'll need a digital photo of the odometer and at least one good front 3/4 exterior photo, along with a couple paragraphs of text describing the truck's history and your use of it. The miles don't have to be all yours, but should be with the same engine.

Question

It has been so long since MP had a 6.2L truck, that he may have overlooked the fact that we only show up to 99,999.9 miles on the odometer. So we probably need another rule - entrants will be on the honor system to accurately state how many times the odometer has rolled over. Otherwise whoever is closest to 99,999.9 showing, without going over will win. I am showing 66,404, but am on my second engine (see avatar at left).

Dr. Lee is right. No way to tell how many times the odo has turned over. In my case, most of the maintenance and repairs were done by me, so no paper trail.

The odo on my '85 shows 28,319.7.
It has turned over 5 times, and the mileage includes about 20K with a broken speedo cable, and about 50K with 10% oversize tires. That adds up to about 550K miles. It's not likely it'll turn over again.

The engine is original. The only exception may be the head gaskets and timing set were replaced at about 280K as preventive maintenance only. The engine was running fine at the time.

In any case, I would disqualify myself from the contest.

I'm displaying 38,358 (actually 138,358) on original engine. I expect others will have much higher mileage than that on an original engine!

As we post results, it might be nice to know how many miles you got out of your previous engine(s), if you're not on the original any more.

249,700 on the Suburban, 242k on the Blazer. No internal engine surgery. Can I combine the two?

damn sub......155,000....rebuilt.

I love this truck u guys...I just got it back after 2 months without it...Let me take this opportunity to throw a big shout out to denny at north west fuel injection in north west ohio...had my truck for a week and a half and they took care of it like it was their own...I spent some money...but having a compotent and honest diesel guy is well worth it.

No way I could have done the work on my own...Great to be back on the road in my beasty.

I have 647,000km on mine..... so I guess that would be just over 404,000 miles. Original engine, tranny... hope to get to 1 Million KM - maybe GM would give me a brand new truck? Humm... I think not...

Thanks for posting the info about all of your high-mile 6.2's. We'll run the contest through to the end of this month, then we'll select that truck/Sub with the highest mileage, and request a digital photo of the odometer and vehicle, along with a little history.

Thanks,

Jim

Got 278k out of my old Blazer. Injector pump first replaced at 90k. At 200k replaced the pump again, new head gaskets, (just in case, it didn't need a pump or new gaskets) and a Banks turbo. Started using a lot of oil in 2005, and its been parked in the shed at my parents place since early last year. Ran great when I parked it, aside from using a quart of oil every 700 miles or so.

As of today 270,959, but it is running rough. Need to get a post in the "help needed" section to keep it going. It is a 1990 J code, 4X4, sold new in North Pole Alaska.
