    Default Lb7 fuel filter replacement

    Somehow lost my direction for changing the fuel filter.. Please direct me to info/steps...Thanks

    Unplug the WIF sensor harness from the bottom of the filter
    unscrew the filter from the housing
    swap the WIF sensor from the old filter to the new one
    screw the new filter onto the housing
    *make sure you replace the o rings on the sensor and the filter
    plug in the WIF sensor harness
    open the air bleeder valve on top of the filter housing
    pump the primer until the air bleeder valve bleeds fuel instead of air
    close the air bleeder valve
    clean up the diesel fuel you just spilled
    start the truck and drive happy. Maybe follow up with a cold beer to celebrate.

    I would add two things:

    1. Drain the filter before removing. Place a suitable container below the filter water drain and open it (plastic valve/nipple at the bottom, just turn it 2-3X), remove the top air bleed screw, and wait a few minutes while it drains. Close the water drain and wipe up residual fuel to prevent dripping.

    2. Filter filling and air bleeding doesn't have to be messy. Once installation is complete, pump the primer 20-30 times and install the air bleed screw. Pump until hard, plus 10-20 more pumps. This will prime the fuel inlet to the pump enough for a start. Any remaining air will purge through the system before the engine is up to temp, faster with higher RPM/load.

    Also note, Lubrication Specialist (TDP supporting vendor) offers a fuel filter bleed valve/tube kit. Well worth the expense if interested in a more effective and mess-free bleeding method. The kit includes an adapter that accommodates the odd-size thread of the bleed port. He also offers a stainless steel bleed screw to replace a lost/cracked/damaged or unwanted plastic OEM screw.

    I would add:

    1- Loosen the fuel tank cap. Vacuum in the tank could suck all of the fuel in the line back into the tank, making it a harder to prime the new filter.

    2- I like to remove the passenger side battery to gain better access. Better access reduces the possibility of a mistake or not getting a seal/sensor wire installed correctly.
