Hemet, California, about 65 miles from you, Shell station has diesel at $4.19.9 ! It went up 10 cents on Thursday, and another 10 cents on Friday. At this rate we should be at $5 a gallon in another week or so.

What is the explanation for this rapid rise in price? I should think with our economy at or near recession state, there would be some drop in demand for diesel fuel.

I was watching the Pixar movie "Cars" last night where Lightning McQueen and the Porsche go off for a "drive" on route 66. It scares me to think this would be a thing of the past due to the high price of fuel, global warming, and all the rest. Its like an old tradition going out the window and if feels like losing a long time friend.

Unhappy fuel pric , WHAT GIVES ?

Here in Manitoba, Canada, price is just under $1.15 Liter or about $4.35 US gal. ( my card lock is little cheaper ) if $ is same.
The thing that bugs me, is the fuel you are getting in the US, comes from Canada!!!! and you get it cheaper than we do , WHY ?????

Hard to calculate the cost of fuel here, the signs keep counting up. I thought it was customers served, until I saw the '$' sign in front of it...

I filled up my drum today, because I could get it for 3.799. I've seen a couple of 3.779/gal but they are too far to make it worth it...

Most stations are 3.95 - 3.99/gal - but that is today at 3:45pm prices.

I know the price of fuel is hurting, put puh-lease don't start chanting the mindless rant that you are being sold on the boogey man of "Big Oil" and research the facts a little before falling in line with the herd.

    http://www.eia.doe.gov/bookshelf/brochures/diesel/

Why are diesel fuel prices higher than gasoline prices?
Until several years ago, the average price of diesel fuel was usually lower than the average price of gasoline. In some winters when the demand for distillate heating oil was high, the price of diesel fuel rose above the gasoline price. Since September 2004, the price of diesel fuel has been generally higher than the price of regular gasoline all year round for several reasons. Worldwide demand for diesel fuel and other distillate fuel oils has been increasing steadily, with strong demand in China, Europe, and the U.S., putting more pressure on the tight global refining capacity. In the U.S., the transition to low-sulfur diesel fuel has affected diesel fuel production and distribution costs. Also, the Federal excise tax on diesel fuel is 6 cents higher per gallon (24.4 cents per gallon) than the tax on gasoline.

    $0.60 is a bargain...

Where I live, diesel is now $0.90/gallon more than regular gas. Diesel went up $0.10/gallon yesterday, gas didn't budge.

Filled the truck up today for $4.159 at a Union 76 station in Anaheim Hills, CA (SoCal). The price is up $0.15 from last Friday at this time.

Philsauto - those Shell Stations are the most expensive for diesel (at least in Orange County).

Geauga County, Northeast Ohio; Fuel was $3.69 when I went to work, on the way home it was now $4.09!!! I parked my suburban for the winter to keep it out of the salt, but now I'm really dreading putting this back on the road. There is no way I will be able to afford the fuel prices.

I've been talking about getting a group of guys together and look into starting a biodiesel co-op. That is the subject for another thread.

Default Fuel costs - $4.00/gal here we come!

This past Friday, 14 March, I purchased diesel fuel at one of our local Cenex dealers. It was $3.959/gal. $4.00/gal is not far behind. Hurry spring, need a little relief on the demand for fuel/heating oil (#1 diesel) so the price can come down a bit.
