    Default 6.2 build up question

So still work in porgress on my 82 k30 I love my n/a 6.2 btw seems to have more power than the 350 in my newer truck of corse I do have a 5 speed behind it and it is much lighter than my 95 k2500 ext cab so I picked up annother engine I want to build its an early block crack free early 6.2 orange red in color said to be high nickle im not planning to go crazy im almost 40 and probably over 50 at heart just want to build a turbo engine I have a set of 6.5 td heads from my 97 i parted out along with the dual t stat housing I and db2 4911 pump wich is on my current 6.2 n/a wich btw I do realize is the stock pump for a 6.5 td 92/93 year so my question will this block bored .030 over with the late 6.5 heads and db2-4911 pump dual t stats and ho water pump stud girdle kit btw I plan to buy the best harmonic damper I can buy. I also plan to run an i/c since they say if I tow alot I will benefit and yes I do last week I towed an insane amount or wieght behind this thing with out a problem double trailer to be exact thats all the detail off again but will this be a good reliable build run with a banks setup am running n/a right now maybey wont do anything just looking for bragging rights and and everyone says all diesels should have a turbo. would probably be nice in citys when i leave the state wich I havent in a couple years and next should I run the turbo precups or n/a as far as numbers i think 400 lbd/ft of tourque would be nice but hp is irrelevent my truck only needs 150 to more than get out of its own way it only wieighs 5400 pounds emptyits still under 3 tons with myself and my wife our laptops cloths and a full tank of fuel and gets a nice fuel sipping 24 mpg while staying in the fast lane and have not got worse than 14 towing last time checked I tow boats cars and rvs and a 24 foot enclosed cargo trailer I do baby it when towing egts I like to keep them under 900 at most but usually no more than 600.I really love these engines personally and do want to explore its capabilitys and am not looking to win the 8000 pound modified class at the county fair just want to give my good ol ride of over 20 years closer to later model diesel numbers and yes I have explored the cummins options and done lots of research not knocking the swaps but if I do a swap it will be a duramax I am awesome with electricals and wiring its my master fortei Im not a butcher and all the swaps I have seen in person look like you have to be but off the swap subject I dont think i need to do one im just wanting to know if i should pursue the build or ebay what i got get a banks and later a p400 knowing its more engine than I will ever need in this truck.to keep in mind this is my weekend tow rig I have 3 other trucks but this is the one i run when im only hauling one way or im gonna get in some vacation time while im away I would like to get a little more acceleration in traffic but keep the truck it is now with the n/a 6.2

The 6.2 shortblock should serve quite well.

Honestly you can't really tell the difference between a 6.2 and a 6.5 with the same turbocharger setup and heads.

The 6.2 will be strong enough to do what you're looking for out of it.

I'd still recommend finding a Banks setup for the truck so that everything will fit really well. It'll bolt to 6.5 heads just as well.

I'm still 6.2 ignorant at this point, so can't help you on the 6.2 questions.

However, you mention something to the effect of never having seen a clean CTD swap. Well, check this build out when you get a chance (it's long). I did the machine work, he did the fab and all the fitting. But more importantly for your comment, he did all the wiring. He's a stickler for wiring, everything is high quality top end wire with weather-pak connectors and nice clipped looming. I think I do a better job of wiring than most, but this guy is completely out of my leage...

Yes I am gonna buy the banks set up im planning on selling a couple of my newer trucks and i talked to a guy from banks I can get the right side manifold and the turbo for a fraction of the cost of the kit I figured id go that way i already have the 6.5 intake non egr with pressure chamber I figured I would set that up with an intercooler I had also considered modifieing a subaru wrx intercooler the one I am running runs well a few weekends ago I got stuck up at telos with a water pump issue and yes I carry a spare I had my 5 year old daughter with me and well needless to say with just a few everyday tools I hade her going in a couple hours in the woods 100 miles from civilization in -20 degree weather got back home with none other than a good story and a busted water pump to prove it with facts if it were a chevy i think my and my lil girl would have froze to death LOVE my gm 6.2 diesel

I agree it looks clean but again crossmembers were removed it does look a little better than the 17 I have seen in person but all the chopping I dont want to do I just had to replace the frame on mine and I had to pay more for a good frame last spring then I paid for my truck in 91 so anything that is cut Im not considering personally im a gm guy and not dis ing the cummins but id rater work on a 6.2 than a cummins and a cummins outwieghs they heaviest engine my truck was offered with by a few hundred pounds I had a dodge I wasnt fond of it at all not that it didnt run good it just didnt drive like my chevy nor did it have the nice v8 response for the wife when i had a few to many beers on a friday night not to say it didnt have power she couldnt get it to move. Im just dead against the swap in my own truck and can point out a half dozen natures of that beast that are reasons I would NEVER OWN ONE AGAIN even if it is a better engine than my lil 6.2 litre I would rather have a gutless truck thats easy to fix when it breaks than a powerhouse that I cant fix myself with wd40 and a craftsman wrench love my N/A 6.2 Litre I have never built one I get them in the scrap yard and run em and they run and run some better than others some worse

I'd recommend just finding a nearly complete used kit. Keep your eyes on ebay, one will turn up.

have not found a used kit for what i can get a new one for my banks distributer quoted my 400 dollars less for the whole kit than most poeple are selling them on ebay for at least in my findings in my search settings
I have considered the whole kit as an option just didnt seem nesesary to get the whole kit when I already have the oil feed line the return line the gages and all but I do know it will all fit better than trying to mix and match and it sure does look nice together but i have been watching them on ebay I have yet to see one sell for less than a new one
