    Exclamation NV4500 swap

New here, i have a 94 k1500 6.5 with an auto trans. Not an auto kind of guy!! I'm getting a parts truck, a 2wd 3500 manual. My question is, can i just steal parts from it and swap in the nv4500? Is the 2wd trans the same as a 4x4? And can i use the ecm from the parts truck in mine so it doesn't go into limp mode when it doesn't sense the auto trans? Or what will i need? Thanks for any replies

I’ve been considering a similar swap for my ’94 Yukon.

The 2WD and 4WD trans have differences. At a minimum, you have to tear the transmission down and swap out the rear housing and the mainshaft. Here are links to the pieces (LINK and LINK). Once you get into the trans, you’re likely going to want to replace bearings and seals since you’re there anyway.

The ECMs will also be different between the 1500 (L56) and 3500 (L65) engines. Kennedy Diesel (in the vendor section) can likely retune your 1500 EMC for the manual transmission.

The auto truck will NOT have the mount up under the dash to mount the petal assembly fully, you will need to cut the spot welds and install it in the auto truck, complete removal of the dash will be needed. I will post a pic of the bracket if I can...

If that 2wd NV4500 doesn't work out for you, I'd be interested.
