    Question

    Does anyone know the valve stem/guide clearences for a 1986 6.2?

    Also, what is the original valve stem height? (This is the amount the valve stem protrudes above the valve spring seat)

    And what is the original valve spring seat pressure?

    The chilton book that I have access to only goes back to 1988, but I don't trust the info listed. It shows that both intake and exhaust valves are 11/32", where my 1986 has 3/8" exhaust valve stems and 11/32" intake valve stems.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Stem to guide clearance; I&E = 0.0010" to 0.0027"
    Valve stem installed height = 1.81"
    Spring pressure = 80lbs @ 1.81"
    230lbs @ 1.39"
    Valve stem dia.; I = 0.3410" to 0.3417"
    E = 0.3715" to 0.3722"
    Valve guide dia.; I = 0.3427" to 0.3437"
    E = 0.3732" to 0.3742"
    All info is cross ref. from military manual and Haynes diesel engine repair manual(ISBN 1 56392 188 X).
